This day in tech history, the transistor

A replica of the first transistor

69 years ago, the transistor was invented at Bell Laboratories. A transistor is just a simple device that acts like an electronic water pipe, when turned on it lets electricity flow through it, when off it doesn’t let electricity flow through it. The function of them seems pretty simple and almost pointless. However these devices have turned into the backbone of almost every single modern piece of technology. From the toaster in your kitchen to the computer you’re reading this on right now! They all have transistors at their core. The amount of transistors can range from only a couple in a toaster, to over a billion transistors in a modern day laptop! And that number just keeps on growing.
